Shotexa vs FreeConvert
Choose between a focused browser-local image workspace and a much broader cloud converter with advanced format settings.
Reviewed 20 October 2026 against the official product pages linked below. Features may change.
The practical difference
FreeConvert is built for converting many kinds of files, including formats Shotexa does not decode. Its image converter offers resize and metadata options and accepts sources from device or connected services. Shotexa is narrower: common screenshot formats, supported passive SVGs and PDF page images, with an editor, privacy tools and local processing around the result. FreeConvert says uploaded files are deleted after eight hours; that is different from Shotexa's default local conversion, where no source file is sent to a conversion server.
Workflow comparison
| Question | Shotexa | FreeConvert |
|---|---|---|
| Where conversion runs | In your browser for the listed local tools | After file upload to FreeConvert's service |
| Format breadth | PNG, JPEG, WebP, supported SVG artwork and PDF page images | Much broader image and other file-format catalog |
| Advanced image options | JPEG/WebP quality, background, selected PDF pages and SVG dimensions | Resize, quality, orientation and metadata options vary by converter |
| After conversion | Result stays in a temporary workspace for editing, redaction and PDF creation | Download the converted file; other FreeConvert tools are available |
| Large or unusual files | Browser memory and explicit format limits apply | Supports larger files and formats outside Shotexa's scope, subject to its current limits |
When Shotexa fits better
You already have a screenshot, WebP, PNG, JPEG, supported SVG or PDF and want a quick local conversion that flows into annotation, privacy redaction or screenshot styling without another upload.
When FreeConvert fits better
You need RAW photos, uncommon formats, video/audio conversion, a larger file allowance, or conversion controls that Shotexa's focused browser tools do not offer.
Shotexa is not a universal file converter. FreeConvert states an automatic deletion window for its uploads; this page does not suggest that its files are stored indefinitely or that its security claims are false.

Common questions
- Can Shotexa replace every FreeConvert format?
- No. Shotexa handles a small set of browser-friendly screenshot and document-image tasks. FreeConvert lists a much wider catalog.
- Does FreeConvert process files locally?
- Its official converter pages describe file upload and automatic deletion. Shotexa's listed conversion tools run locally in the browser.
- Can I edit a converted image in Shotexa?
- Yes. A conversion result is added to the temporary workspace so you can open it in Editor, Beautifier, privacy or PDF tools.
